Herald Express 6/10/09:
'GRUTE RETURNS TO HELP VICTORIA SMASH JACKZ'
VICTORIA Inn won the bragging rights for the number of goals scored in Division One of the Torbay Sunday League at the weekend.
No fewer than four teams reached double figures, while Jackz hit five and The George Inn four, only to finish on the losing side on a day of bizarre score-lines.
It was, though, Victoria Inn who took the honours after building on a 5-2 interval lead to finish 13-5 ahead of Jackz.
It also marked a timely return to the Ashburton side for striker Danny Grute, last season's leading marksman with 28 to keep Victoria Inn from sliding back into Division Two.
He had lost his appetite for the game until recently, but bounced back with five goals and four 'assists' as Victoria Inn filled their boots with almost every effort on goal.
Lee Lewis (4), Jamie Martin (2), Chris Lewis and Jack Burt (penalty) were the others on the score-sheet, with central defender Scott Dandy (2), Mark Titchard (2) and Kevin Smith replying for a plucky Jackz, who never recovered from having to replace both full-backs Mitchell Cannan and his brother, Adam, through injury during the opening 15 minutes.
